SONGS & DREAMS |
In the cities, in every country, People jam and they work all the same. All the clergy, all the soldiers, They all jam with remarkable simliarity. Well, they can drink, they can smoke, They can tell dirty jokes, Then get around to church on Sunday. But don't mistake me now! They're okay. But no one can jam, no one can Like a rich man in a Cadillac, Or a tough man smoking cigarettes, Or a wise man handing down the facts, Or a good man just kicking on back! Strolling through the forest, In the woods of early morning, You'd better STOP! And smell the smoke Of that old man's pipe, And think of what he's done and where he's been Because he's lived here And he's been there Much longer than you or I have ever dreamed. And think of all the stories That were told in days of old When society was born, But not too very young; The people lived and laughed the same As we all do today, But their story was not the same, No, their story was much too tame! Look at all the misery they missed out on today! |
