- Jeff's Great British Eats! -

Welcome to my humble attempt to make other Americans (ignorant Yankee Doodles, and not savvy Canadians) understand that British cuisine is not just a lump of boiled cow's organs and potatoes plopped on one's plate! As an Anglo-American Anglophile, I have grown disgusted with other Americans' attitudes towards what they only think is the sum and substance of what makes up the stock of British people's daily bread. In the pages that follow, I provide a few "retro" recipes for British daily fare - the sort of food that used to be traditionally served in pubs all over Great Britain, as well as on the dinner tables of everyday Britons.

I first became exposed to British cuisine when I was shipped overseas, while in the service of the U.S. Army, to work at a British Army Intelligence unit in West Germany. There (as well as in Great Britain itself back in the 1980s), I was introduced to such tasty delights as Scotch eggs, "toad in the hole," Yorkshire pudding, cottage and shepherd's pie, Welsh and Cornish pasties, beans on toast, meat pies and an assortment of other dishes typically served on British tables during informal occasions. You won't need your finest Royal Doulton china (with the "hand-painted Periwinkles") to serve the authentic, yet "Americanized" recipes I offer on the following pages! They are easy-to-make versions of traditional favourites, made with ingredients and name-brands readily available in the United States (and I have included lots of helpful pictures/photos of the food and other images to easily guide you along).

This more simple "down home" British cooking is just plain good. It's hardy, filling, and very, very delicious! So click below to enter the site and, have no fear, you'll not be spammed to death or asked to pay a single penny to view my recipes because this is an ads-free, cost-free web site intended to help further the good will and understanding that exists between the peoples of our great nations.
