SONGS & DREAMS
OF OTHER THINGS
about
AND THAT WHICH IS SCARY!

by Jeffrey Murrell

I HAD TO RUN

I couldn't stand before that man.
He was so tall and scary!
And I had hardly a stitch of clothing on,
Just an old green overcoat!

I couldn't stand to be in that place.
It was so dark and scary!
I needed a cigarette and some rest.
I just had to go.

I couldn't take the streets at night.
They're so wild and scary!
And it's so cold -- it's freezing,
I run fast, not slow!

I can't take the religious life;
Everybody wants to save me.
And I've never really been free,
Only in my dreams.
