SONGS & DREAMS
|Never trust a friend with a very brave conscience,
Or those who've been to war for our civilization.
The trees are still green where you shot down those Cubans.
But better that they fell than you, my friend!
It's been so long since I've heard of your existence.
Days move on, and time turns them to years.
Your heart turned to stone, and our dreams into nightmares.
I've disciplined my soul, but I miss you, friend.
Never trust a friend with a broken heart,
Keep well out of sight, it'll tear 'em apart.
I get myself around -- sometimes too far.
But I always take you with me in my heart.
I beg your pardon, please -- it's my state of mind.
I'm kept so far away by the ocean and time!
I hope you can recall the old times we shared.
I hope this poem will help -- it's for you, my friend.
