SONGS & DREAMS

LOVE

HOW?

How could I let so many slip away?
So many, so beautiful, with lovely fingers
Slip through mine
When I had them each in my grasp one by one?

How?

How is it that I let my powers fade
And all of them eventually wiggled
Out from my charms
And hopes and dreams and wants
Again and again?

How?

How do I look to others like them today?
So many, so distant and so high on themselves
With mirrors on walls and in their hands
Around and around?

How?

How will they all stand the test of age?
So many, once beautiful, but slipping now
And ready to get such a slap in the face over and over?

How?
